This study aims to analyze the feasibility of a mini oil refinery from a technical and economic perspective. The feed used for this plant is light crude oil with API gravity 47.3002 from the Belida block, South Sumatra. The plant is designed with a capacity of 10,000 barrels per day to produce intermediate products.

A mini refinery is defined as a refinery that produces less than 5,000 barrels of oil a day – however, this is a loosely agreed-upon definition. Mini refinery designs can vary, particularly if they are of a modular construction. Modular-mini refineries are intended to be easy-to-construct refineries that can be customised for consumer demands.

The Balikpapan refinery is the second-largest refinery in Indonesia. At its current crude oil processing capacity of 260,000 barrels, it processes 25% of the total crude oil intake and supplies about 15% of the fuel needs in Indonesia. Under the RMDP refinery expansion plan, it is set to become even bigger.
- How to improve efficiency in fuel oil production in Indonesia?
- The effects of the energy crisis and the rising energy demand have sparked development to improve efficiency in using fuel oil. According to Indonesia’s oil resources, increasing refinery capacity and building mini refineries is essential to secure local refinery production.
- What are the three biggest refineries in Malaysia?
- The three biggest refineries are Cilacap (348 MBCD), Balikpapan (260 MBCD) and Dumai (170 MBCD). Currently, government accelerates refineries development especially from Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) and Grass Root Refinery (GRR) projects to reduce fuel import.
- What is Indonesia’s largest oil refinery?
- This refinery supplies 34% of the national fuel needs or 60% of the fuel needs in Java, making it the largest refinery in Indonesia, Pertamina said. Indonesia’s Pertamina said it would build a small-scale regasification plant at its Cilacap oil refinery located on the island of Java.
- What type of oil is used in Indonesian refineries?
- The average of crude oil entering the Indonesian refineries from 2007 – 2018 was less than 1 million BPD. On primary fuel production, Ron-88 (subsidized fuel) still dominates refinery production in Indonesia. Low Sulphur Waxy Residue (LSWR) is a type of fuel widely produced on secondary fuel production.
